Al Maghrib No 72 - September 19, 1937

Despite lengthy measures by the Administration to tightly suppress our propaganda by prohibiting us the access to Arab and French newspapers and by using the colonial press to fight against us and to launch the most vile and false accusations, a right can not be used against those who defend and support it. Our movement is nothing other than the expression of a specific right and our demands are those to address the grievances of the people. Our objectives have no aim other than the interests of the people and to defend their rights.

That is why freedom loving French people, after becoming aware of our objectives and our views, support us and do not hesitate to defend our cause and to distance themselves from the web of lies rigged against us and from the goals of the colonialists who resort to these practices.

Schemers sought to exploit the events that occurred in Meknez to discredit our movement and to distort our conduct of which we have been cleared of all wrongdoing. But all these attempts and campaigns of denigration have not had the slightest impact on those who know the truth with respect to our demands and who appreciate our just position. They are convinced in the legitimacy of our cause and we witnessed them on the front lines trying to persuade the French residing in Morocco our our good intentions and presenting a true account of the events free of distortion.

"Le Maroc Socialiste" (The Moroccan Socialist), "Le Pays Socialiste" (The Socialist Country) and "La Dépâche de Fès" (The Fez Dispatch) published articles on the events full of truthful and objective commentary. Similarly the left wing press in France was not persuaded by the fallacious allegations nor by the false accusations against us by the colonial press. The dispatched their correspondents to Morocco who strengthened our position and gave us encouragement to not give up hope on the French liberals.

Amongst these correspondents, it is worth mentioning Mr. and Mrs. Baz. In particular Mrs. Baz is a member of the "Committee of Support for the Moroccan Petition for Redress" and is also a member of the Commission of Inquiry charged with the investigation of issues in the colonies and protectorates of France and she collaborates on "Le Populaire" (The Popular), the official organ of the Socialist Party. She has written a resounding article in which she provided an analysis of the incident and described what she saw firsthand with a greatly persuasive style.

As long as we find liberal French people with such concern and frankness, we shall not lose hope and we will remain confident that our cause will eventually triumph despite the allegations of the colonialist press. And the truth will be reflected in the eyes of the French public who will know tht our movement has only one and only one purpose: to serve the Moroccan people and to cooperate with the government to realize this one objective.
